Founded in 2004 by Petya Koleva, Intercultura Consult has worked with a broad range of partners, cultural initiatives and global networks. This is a selected overview of our experiences.
In 2016 for the first time since democratic rule in Bulgaria, the municipal authorities of the capital (1, 5 million inhabitants) partnered non-state actors in the ambition to boost the potential of Sofia's growing independent arts scene.
ICC developed the analytical tools and synergy of approach analysing five disciplinary fields – Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Literature and Dance. This resulted in a proposal for a long-term strategy under the brand name 'Shared Vision' (2016). The EuroEast Capacity building workshops (2014) focused on participants' needs and Intercultura Consult curated the analytical format of Kyiv's final conference of the EaP Culture Programme that gathered over 120 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and the EU. We designed a theme-based Achievements Fair and contributions by keynotes on the topics of 'Professionalization and Professional Networks'; 'Policy and Culture'' and 'Future Generator'.
'Cultural development as the source of prosperity for the community' (2013) was based on a partner-driven curation for a professional development programme addressing Georgian and Ukrainian professionals. The study visits in Bulgaria integrated exchanges and presentations on predefined topics in three municipal regions: Sofia the seat of national cultural policy and a UNESCO Creative city of Cinema; Kostenec – a municipality showcasing cultural heritage and recreational tourism and Plovdiv, the designated European Capital of Culture 2019.
The international meeting for the GENERATION (2012) ECF pilot in Sofia offered experienced cultural managers the opportunity to reflect on professional challenges and wider societal issues of Europe. Two generations explorеd the possibility of triggering social and political change. The Animated Learning Partnership (2008-2011) capacity building and creativity project was initiated by Intercultura Consult. uqbar e.V. (Berlin) and VIVO Foundation (Budapest). This partnership received the Hungarian National Agency- best Grundtvig learning partnership award in 2011. It realised 28 professional training exchanges and designed 7 international events to enhance: Access to Culture and Audience development (including arts marketing); Sustainable development and Regional cultural management.
The 'Cartoon' project (2007-2009) was initiated by the Italian design office MbVision and focused on ways to animate local cultural offer, in particular focusing on young people. ICC organised an international capacity building meeting bring in a focus on game and animation storytelling. The first European inter-sectoral research project and symposium was co-designed with ELIA - Innovation Arts and Culture '07. Its focus on the relevance of higher arts training to professional contexts gathered participants from over 20 European countries. Insituto Spinelli hosted the event in Florence. Intercultura Consult was the first consultancy in the Balkan region specialised in Cultural and Creative Industries. We offer a diverse range of services to individual projects and organisations of varying types and sizes. ICC operates from Bulgaria which is hosting the Presidency of The Council of the EU in 2018.
